Year in review: Pandemic dominated news in 2020

As the calendar flipped to Jan. 1, the prospect of 2020 was one filled with dreams of a fresh start and hope for the future, as the beginning of a new decade typically brings.

COVID-19: By the numbers

A total of 1,833 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Santa Clara County as of April 16. Within the previous 24 hours, local public health officials reported four new deaths and 40 new cases of COVID-19 within the county.

City: No rent increases during pandemic

Residential landlords in Morgan Hill are prohibited from increasing their tenants’ monthly rent prices while the coronavirus crisis and related stay-home orders are underway, according to city officials.

The rate of the virus’ spread has expanded exponentially—with more than 1,000 positive cases reported daily in recent weeks in Santa Clara, and a positivity rate of 68.3 new cases per 100,000 residents per day in San Benito.

Covid-19: By the numbers

Santa Clara County health officials reported 259 new cases of Covid-19 on July 30, bringing the total to 9,612 positive cases since the pandemic began.
