Herman Garcia deserves the Congressional Medal of Honor for his environmental activism. He can be nominated by visiting cmohs.org, going to “Citizen Honors Awards/Apply,” and “Nominate/CMOHS.” Let’s all submit his name.  DJ Smith Gilroy

Letter: It’s time to privatize transit

Regarding more public sector rail transit boondoggles feasting off taxpayers forcing up gas taxes and auto fees so that politicians can crow “success” about boondoggle monstrosities like County Transit, Caltrain, Amtrak, etc., thanks for considering transport options, one of my favorite subjects.  The late Secretary...

Letter: California should stop wasting stormwater

RAIN! What a joyful sight! So much needed in California. Yet, California has been setting the record for wasting precious rainfall.  For four decades, the state with one liberal party rule, has not built one major water storage project, while the population has doubled. Didn’t...

Letter: Petition only serves a single special interest

While Panwala asserts that the city is interfering with the right to referendum, it is actually Panwala and his coalition who are exploiting the referendum process for the benefit of one family at the expense of the residents and voters of Morgan Hill.

Letter: Complicity is unacceptable

It is time to address the unacceptable rise of hate and bigotry in Morgan Hill with a firm and unequivocal voice. On March 7, 2025, a Muslim family in our community was violently attacked—a targeted act of racial and religious aggression. And now, on...

Letter: Make the switch, beat gas prices

We humans live in a place where there are cars everywhere. Most of us have such easy access to cars that we have multiple cars at our hand. Nowadays, having a car seems just as expensive as fueling the car.  Gas prices are expensive, and...

Letter to the editor: Cordoba Center mosque project

Continue reporting on mosque concernsJudging from the "editor's picks,” you are in support of the Cordoba Center project. There has been a mosque in San Martin for many years. I live across the street from it. I've never seen 400 families there simultaneously. If there were, it would likely be in violation since this area is zoned rural residential. It is interesting that people who do not live in San Martin have free rein in your paper to tell us how we should live. Please stop making this about religion and provide equal comment on what a lot of San Martin residents care about: water, land use, encroachment and the paving over of this rural community.San Martin residents have genuine concerns, having been through water contamination at least twice in recent history. Zoning violations are rampant in this unincorporated town, and the county doesn't have the manpower to deal with the problem.I suggest you read the San Martin Neighborhood Alliance’s document addressing the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the Cordoba Center. It came out yesterday, and I'd be happy to forward it to you.Thank you,Dawn PeruSan Martin

Letters: Groundwater Awareness Week; Adapt to change

Groundwater Awareness Week Any resource taken for granted is a resource at risk of being lost. That is why the California Groundwater Association, the Groundwater Foundation, and the National Ground Water Association will be joining hundreds of organizations across the country in celebrating National Groundwater...
