Gavilan College students searched out their university options Thursday at College Transfer Day.

With members of the teachers and classified workers unions repeatedly and publicly expressing displeasure with their current contracts, school district leadership scheduled a Nov. 7 special closed session board meeting to discuss ongoing contract negotiations.

School officials got their Halloween treat one day after the fall holiday when Morgan Hill Unified School District’s board of education unanimously approved a $50 million project to construct a brand new Britton Middle School.

The two teachers’ union choices for school board spots got boosts to their campaign finance accounts as challenger candidates Angelica Diaz (Trustee Area 5) and Albert Beltran Jr. (Trustee Area 6) received monetary contributions from the California Federation of Teachers, its local members and other education-based sources.

School district officials recommend the board of education approve a nearly $50 million plan to build a brand new Britton Middle School, with construction scheduled to start this summer and be completed by summer of 2019.
