Textbook Sale

The Morgan Hill Unified School District needs to get rid of obsolete textbooks and is offering them to the public for free. For one day only, Dec. 5, all school sites will have obsolete textbooks to give away between 9am-2pm.

Teachers Endorse Three Incumbents, One Newcomer

The Morgan Hill Federation of Teachers has announced its endorsement of candidates for the four open seats on the Morgan Hill Unified School District Board of Education. Union members are supporting candidates Bart Fisher, Amina Khemici, Don Moody and Shelle Thomas.

High School Students Raise $2,880 at Wheelchair Relay

Sobrato High Student is State Semi-Finalist

Isela Banuelos, a junior at Sobrato, has been selected as one of 12 semi-finalists for the Student Member of the State School Board for the 2007-08 school year. She is attending a state conference - the Student Advisory Board on Education - Nov. 4-8. As a part of the conference, she will share a short video presentation about herself and her qualifications for the position. Conference delegates, after viewing the 12 presentations, will narrow the field to six semi-finalists by secret ballot. Those six will be interviewed by the State Board of Education screening committee on Nov. 7, and three finalists will be recommended. The governor will select the student representative himself, likely in July 2007, and the new state board representative's first meeting will be Sept. 12 and 13.

Mount Madonna Hosts Open House

The Watsonville-based Mount Madonna School campus, 491 Summit Road, will be offering an open house for the public at 1pm, Nov. 18.

National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week

National Bullying Prevention Awareness Week is Oct. 22–28. Educational activities aimed at getting students to talk about inappropriate behavior are sponsored by PACER National Center for Bullying Prevention and co-sponsored by the National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education, National Education Association and National PTA.

Child Safety Fair

Home Depot held its annual safety fair for children Saturday, Oct. 7, with the help of the Morgan Hill Police Department, California Highway Patrol and the Santa Clara County Fire Department. Parents and their children learned about safety in the home, child safety identification kits and other topics while having fun with police officers and firefighters. Home Depot also supplied crafts for kids to make and pumpkins for them to take home.
