Firefighters made significant progress against the SCU Complex in the past day, bringing 25 percent of it under control and allowing Cal Fire to east more evacuation orders.

CalFire and the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office have established a process for livestock owners to access their evacuated properties to remove or care for their animals as the SCU Complex burns in the eastern part of the county.

These efforts include extensive work inside Henry W. Coe State Park, using bulldozers to cut a 60-foot firebreak inside the park, well in front of the flames.

Some residents east of Morgan Hill and Gilroy now have more freedom to stay at home, as CalFire has lifted evacuation warnings for some neighborhoods in eastern Santa Clara County.

Morgan Hill Police and public safety staff spent Sunday night guarding closed roads and patrolling evacuated neighborhoods as the SCU Complex fire continues to grow in east Santa Clara County and beyond.

A series of brush fires along Coyote Creek north of Morgan Hill Friday afternoon burned about 40 acres and two small structures, according to authorities.

City officials and public safety authorities are urging residents in the east Morgan Hill foothills to take the SCU Complex fire seriously and flee to safety as soon as they can, even though the area is not yet under an evacuation order.
