Douglas E. Stevens passed away peacefully at his home in Gilroy on Monday, July 30 at age 48. At the time of death, he was surrounded by his beloved family. He was born in San Francisco, raised in San Jose, and made Gilroy his home for the past twenty years. He attended Willow Glen High School, West Valley College and San Jose State University. A highly respected 24-year veteran of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, Doug held the rank of sergeant and was the recipient of many awards acknowledging his accomplishments.
Doug is survived by his wife of 24 years, Jackie, his two children, Megan and Michael, his parents, Dr. Earl and Doris Jean Stevens , his siblings Janette (Mark) Adams, Denise (Bill) Brasher, Darlene (Dominic) Cefalu, Kenneth (Natalie) Stevens, Robert Stevens, and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues. Doug lived his life to the fullest and touched many people’s lives in many ways, especially through his passion for sports – as a participant, coach, and avid fan.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 2, at 2:00 P.M. at Temple Beth El, 1212 Riker Street, Salinas. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Michael Stevens Scholarship Fund in care of Sergeant Garry Peterson, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, 55 West Younger Avenue, San Jose, CA 95110.
