Memorial services for Ellen will take place on January 30, 2016, at Advent Lutheran Church in Morgan Hill.
On January 1, 2016, at Santa Teresa Hospital in San Jose, Ellen B. Siverson quietly passed away.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Siverson, and by her son, John.
She is survived by son, Erik Siverson and his wife, Nancy, and by son, Allen Siverson and his wife, Maggie, all of Gilroy. She leaves granddaughters, Pamela Downs of Phoenix, Callie Oberheu of Winnipeg, Clara Lambec of Paris, and Emma Siverson of Sacramento, and grandson, Rolf Siverson of Philadelphia, as well as five great-grandchildren.
Ellen was born in Victor, SD in 1920 of Norwegian immigrant parents. Her father ran the local general store, and her mother served as postmistress for the locale.
While shill in high school, Ellen began substitute teaching, and her love for teaching the primary grades led to her attending Miss Woods teacher’s college in Saint Paul.
After graduating, she married her high school sweetheart, Lyle. Their marriage lasted well beyond 50 years. His job allowed them to travel together to China, Japan, and Korea, as well as among the Pacific Islands.
In the 1970’s, Ellen taught kindergarten at Las Animas school in Gilroy. She and her family were charter members of the Advent Lutheran Church in Morgan Hill, where she was an active member to the time of her death. She was a long term member of the FRFG, the local reading and literary club.
