Vernon (Vern) Schofield born January 8, 1925 in Gilroy and was the only son of Bruce and Florence Schofield. He was a lifelong resident of Gilroy where he passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the age of 92. Vern proudly served in the US Navy as a Mailman 3rd Class from 1945-1947, and returned to Gilroy to eventually open South Valley Welding where he provided the South County with welding services in-house, on-site and in the fields.
An incredibly hard worker and skilled at his craft, he could fix anything from forklifts to the kitchen sink. He enjoyed going out to breakfast, playing tennis, boating, fishing and hunting, and driving his classic cars around town. He is survived by his daughters Sue Schottman and Ellen Sargenti; his grandchildren Julie Schottman, Kimberly Chapin (Don) and Anthony Sargenti; his great-grand daughter Madison Chapin.
He is preceded in death by his eldest daughter Jackie Schofield.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Habing Family Funeral Home located at 129 Fourth Street in Gilroy.
