Basketball: Beyond the ‘Kort’
Dallas and Derek Jensen vividly remember the individual 1-on-1 times they had with their dad, Kort, from the time they were adolescents into their college years. Most of those moments—they number in the thousands—took place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gilroy, the city in which all of them currently reside.

The lifeblood for any college sports program starts with recruiting strong talent—preferably talented individuals who happen to be high character players as well. First-year Gavilan College men’s basketball coach Dallas Jensen seemingly has the pieces in place to turn around a Gavilan program that has been a non-factor in the California Community College scene for decades.
With gym under renovation, Gav continues to excel
The Gavilan College women’s volleyball team has been road warriors this season—literally. Due to the renovation of the school’s gym, the Rams haven’t had a place on campus to play or practice. Instead, Gavilan has been relegated to practice at Gilroy High’s auxiliary gym—read, not the main gym—while playing every match on the road.
UPDATE: Football commissioner signs off on Gavilan’s self-imposed sanctions
Gavilan is one step closer toward finalizing sanctions against its football team following potential recruiting and benefits violations that led to the dismissal of 17 players at the end of August.
Gavilan kicks 17 players off team
Gavilan College removed 17 out-of-state football players—all but one of them African American—from the team and campus last week, claiming the athletes had received prohibited transportation, housing and food benefits and were improperly recruited.
Training for bigger and better
Gavilan College women’s basketball announced the signing of four players to four-year universities. The playoff qualifying team did so thanks in no small part to the four players who helped solidify one of the stand out seasons for the Rams, but also helped to usher in a new group of freshmen who will take over the program next year as sophomores.
