While our family enjoyed the wonderful music last Friday night,
the smoking by some was not so pleasant. I realize this is an
outdoor event, but perhaps a smoking section away from the
immediate vicinity of the band could be implemented?
“While our family enjoyed the wonderful music last Friday night, the smoking by some was not so pleasant. I realize this is an outdoor event, but perhaps a smoking section away from the immediate vicinity of the band could be implemented? This would be much appreciated and make this venue that much more enjoyable. Thank you!”
Red Phone: Dear Can’t Breathe, Red Phone contacted Chris Guisiana, president and CEO of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce, who said an announcement was made last week for people to be considerate.
“I noticed more went either to the parking lot or at the back close to the building,” she said. “We did not receive any negative comments. It all helps us to bring the community the best experience we can.” There you have it, good caller. And, it should be noted, tonight’s concert featuring rock ‘n’ roll band Soul Kiss is the final concert of the year. Get your dancing shoes ready.
Too many rude drivers on the road
“Red Phone, is it just me or are there a bunch of inconsiderate, rude, thoughtless and downright lousy drivers on our streets. Every day, everywhere I go, I see people routinely breaking traffic laws. How the heck did some of these people get a license to drive? Talking on cell phones, rolling through stop signs, not using blinkers, you name it. I’d like to go just one day without seeing someone violate the law. Just one. Thanks.”
Red Phone: Dear Is it Just Me, Red Phone couldn’t agree more. In addition to all the traffic violations seen daily, Red Phone gets most frustrated with drivers who think they’re the only ones on the road. You know the ones. They meant to turn left, but are in the right lane, so instead of just going around the block so as not to disrupt other motorists, they stop, wait for traffic to clear, then proceed to turn left from the right lane. Maybe it’s time to require everyone to retake the driving test – not just the written test – every five years. And, perhaps the Department of Motor Vehicles should actually flunk someone.
How to deal with annoying neighbors
“My neighbors installed a stereo system in the yard to go with their new pool. Before they installed their pool, we were able to enjoy our yard in peace and quiet. This is no longer the case. Not only do we have to hear the commotion of the pool, but now we have to listen to their stereo almost every day. One day, they had the stereo on very, very loud from 2 to 9:30 p.m. Today, we got home and their stereo was on at 10:30 p.m. We finally called police because with the hot weather we had our windows open and heard their talking and music in our bedrooms. Am I being unreasonable? We always try to keep our kids quiet in the yard to be respectful to our neighbors. After the police stopped by I heard them laughing that one of their neighbors complained. If the shoe was on the other foot and the cops came to my home, I would feel horrible, move the party inside and apologize to my neighbors. Any advice on the noise ordinances for our city and advice on how to handle my neighbors would be very appreciated.”
Red Phone: Dear Annoyed, Red Phone did a quick web search and found the city’s noise ordinance described in municipal code section 8.28.020, which defines unlawful behavior: It is unlawful and a misdemeanor for any person to make or continue, or cause to be made or continued, any loud, disturbing, unnecessary or unusual noise or any noise which annoys, disturbs, injures or endangers the comfort, health, repose, peace or safety of other persons within the city. So, good caller, you do have the right to call the police. Now, as to the advice. If you didn’t first speak with your neighbors before calling police, you should have. Who knows, they may have respected the attempt. Now that you called police then heard them laughing, it shows the lack of respect they have for you and the police. Perhaps you should keep calling police every time the music is loud late at night. Eventually they’ll get tired of seeing the police show up at their front door. Or, you could just crash their next party and join in the fun.
Home demolition in the planning
“Hey, Red Phone, I thought the city was going to demolish the old house that sits between Sinaloa and Chase Bank this summer. I believe it’s being done to make room for more parking spaces. Well, the house is still there. What is the plan?”
Red Phone: Dear What is the Plan, Red Contacted Charlie Ha, a city engineer, who said the project was award to Housely Demolition and they should have a schedule and notice to proceed out by the end of the week. The contract amount was for $14,845 with possible additional work of up to $4,800.
Although the city gave notice for demolition early in the year and just recently awarded the bid in June, the delay had nothing to do with the project itself, Ha said.
“Other projects such as Depot Street parking and Third Street/Monterey parking took priority.”
As of press time Thursday, no timeline was available. Stay tuned, good caller.
