Silvia (Torrejos) Rodriguez, 64, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 14, 2017, surrounded by her two daughters. She was born December 31, 1952, in Mexico City and came to the USA at age five. Silvia and her family moved to Gilroy in the late 60’s. She graduated from Gilroy High School, class of 1972 and received her AA in Child Development at Gavilan College in 2004.
Silvia had a passion to help those most in need. Throughout her career she worked as a group home parent for McDowell Youth Home Services. She was a teacher and counselor at La Isla Pacifica’s emergency shelter for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence.
Silvia worked with countless homeless and migrant families at Emergency Housing Consortium Shelters. She was a caseworker for MACSA Familia Sana program. In her later years she was a preschool teacher at Gavilan College and home schooled her two grandchildren. Silvia had a servant’s heart, leading several Bible studies in her home and participating in missions to Mexico with South Valley Community Church and the Gilroy Presbyterian Church. She attended Bible studies at The Anchor Church, Bible Study Fellowship, and New Hope Community Church.
She was always ready with a word of encouragement and praise for all that the Lord had done in her life. Silvia is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Luis Rodriguez. She is survived by her two daughters, Maiesha Rodriguez-Sigler and Marimonte Rodriguez-Noara; son-in-laws Gordon Sigler and Adrian Noara; her two beloved grandchildren Ambrose and Sienna Sigler; and her sister Lupe Maldonado and brother-in-law Jess Maldonado.
Services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, May 20, 2017 at New Hope Community Church, 8886 Muraoka Dr., Gilroy, CA 95020.
