Over the past few years, The City of Morgan Hill has hosted events to promote recycling to K-12 students. This includes the recycling poster contest used for the City of Morgan Hill ECO Calendar and last year, they hosted the large school mosaic project to promote recycling drink containers.

This year they are once again hosting a communitywide event, The City of Morgan Hill Earth Day Art & Science Fair, to promote community-wide reduction, recycling and reuse of redemptive-value beverage containers.

The event will be held at the new Community & Cultural Center on Earth Day, April 22. We are offering cash prizes for every grade level – up to $250. There is also a special classroom award for teachers who use the opportunity for a class-wide project. Projects eligible for entry are open to any idea that promotes reuse, reduction or recycling of drink containers, including art and social awareness projects. Leading up to the event, several smaller events and workshops, along with classroom projects will be offered to generate awareness and enthusiasm.

As in the past, the city is working with my company Articulate Solutions to assist schools in creating project themes, coordinating deliveries of projects to the event center, finding corporate or off-site partners to help lead projects or provide supplies, locate and provide educational materials and resources for use in the classroom and other coordination level public relation activities.

There are opportunities for local businesses and individuals to participate by offering a sponsorship of materials for projects, prizes for entries or time and talent. Opportunities include donating poster boards for the children’s displays, gift certificates for prizes, volunteering time to host a workshop or adopt a class, offering an internship or scholarship for an older student or other ideas you may have.

Last year, Pepsi donated several dozens recycling bins to the high school, Ball Corp. donated more than 3,000 water bottles for the mosaic art project and Vela Piena Fotografia donated photography services among others.

We have been able to thank our corporate sponsors with acknowledgment that includes putting logos and company names on materials distributed throughout the district, mentions in press releases and other promotions. This year we will be able to also thank your company during the event and on event related materials.

We hope to make this event unique because every child has the ability and opportunity to be involved and to be recognized by our community. If you have any questions or ideas to add to the value of this event, feel free to contact me at ka*******@*****************ns.com or 842-2275 or Anthony Eulo at 779-7247 at City Hall.
