The Morgan Hill Mustang 10U finished the United States Specialty Sports Association Luau tournament in Twin Creeks, going undefeated in five games. The Mustangs clinched the championship with an 8-5 win over Pacifica Gold.
All nine players on Morgan Hill’s roster pitched at least one inning in the five games. The pitchers yielded just 12 runs all weekend. The pitching was led by Thomas Mordue, Will Gnibus — who was named the Outstanding Tournament Pitcher – pitched four solid innings in the championship and Ethan Chrisman who pitched three shutout innings in the semifinal game.
The offense was led by Tommy DiVittorio who went 8-10 with six walks, Aidan Keenan 6-11, and Dante Bellistri, who led team with 10 hits and 11 RBIs, including a grand slam in the championship game and was named the tournament MVP.
Andrew Altmaier contributed seven hits, eight RBIs and led team with seven steals. Caleb Elam drove in five clutch RBIs throughout the five games as well.
Defensively, William Nikitas, Altmaier, Bellistri and Chrisman were all solid behind the plate and all four threw out multiple base runners throughout the tournament.
