GILROY—Morgan Hill had another strong showing at a Gilroy track and field meet over the weekend, with 11 Top 10 finishes at the Avis Kelly Invitational.
The top performance of the day came from Live Oak’s girls 4×100-meter relay team, coming in first by .15 seconds ahead of Notre Dame Salinas.
The team of Claire Giacalone, Sarah Jacob, Mikaela Turnispeed and Tessa Seda ran the race in 52.30 for one of seven Top 5 results on the day.
Giacalone also took eighth in the 200m with a time of 27.41.
Two of those came from Live Oak distance runner Kaylah Grant, who took second and third in the girls 3,200m and 1,600m races, respectively.
Grant’s second-place in the 3,200m was a place higher than her run at the Garlic Classic the week before, but she was well off her record-setting pace to finish at 11.41.66.
Grant added a third place finish in the 1,600m, running a 5:18.60.
Morgan Hill overall had a strong day in the distance races with Sobrato turning in a pair of second place finishes in the 800m and the 3,200m.
Brian Williams ran the 800m in 2:05.33 with Nolan Dozier running the 3,200m in 9:51.41.
Sobrato’s Nicole Owens added to the dominance with a fifth finish in the girls 1,600m with a time of 5:24.34.
Live Oak’s Michael Togliatti renewed South County’s dominance of the high jump, tying Gilroy’s Tim Van Horn for second with a leap of 6 feet, 4 inches. Christopher’s Cody Oberlander won the event with a jump that cleared 6 feet, 6 inches.
All three have some of the highest marks in the Central Coast Section in the high jump.
Togliatti is tied for the sixth best mark in the section after this weekend’s effort.
Togliatti also took 13th in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 2 inches.
Togliatti will next compete at the Stanford Invitational this weekend in the high jump.
Rounding out the Top 10 finishes was Chris Armstrong who took 10th in the 100m for Live Oak in 11.53.
In the triple jump, Sam Ramirez took 10th with a mark of 30 feet, 3 inches for the Acorns.
For Sobrato, David Canoy took ninth in the triple jump in 35 feet, 6.5 inches.
