Junior Pee Wee Raiders heading to playoffs

Kendrick throws one TD, runs for another in 20-0 victory
CAMPBELL — It was hunting season for the Morgan Hill Junior Pee Wee Raiders last Saturday as they logged another win, 20-0, against the Campbell Bears at the Campbell Community Center.

Quarter one was scoreless, but the Raiders’ offensive line stepped it up a notch with awesome blocks by Christopher Knopf and Matthew Douglas while defensive lineman, Jesse Sanchez recorded a sack. Alexander Cornejo skillfully caught an erratic kick and returned it 20 yards.

It wasn’t until second quarter when the Raiders (3-2) were on their own 9 yard line that quarterback Miles Kendrick sped through the pack for the first touchdown of the game. The ensuing 2-point kick was blocked.

Solid defensive plays by Riley Owen, Bailey Schroeder and Jared Luner kept the Bears scrapping for yards. With minutes left in the first half, Kendrick threw 10 yards to tight end Alexander Panos, who swiftly carried the ball 15 yards down the sideline into scoring range. Under pressure, Kendrick rolled left and connected with Justin Sanders, who scored another six points for the Raiders. Morgan Hill missed the kick but led 12-0 at halftime. Raiders fans could hear growls from the Bears’ side as the second half opened with Morgan Hill kicking off. The Raiders’ defense trapped Campbell at midfield, and a reverse to Paul Lomanto racked up a 48 yard run and a third touchdown for Morgan Hill. The conversion kick was good.

The Bears had hit a wall as Ivan Dominguez and Sam Anaya’s blocks allowed Kendrick to connect with Trevor Costello for another gain of 15 yards as the third period ended. The fourth quarter showcased Raider offensive linemen Benjamin Johnson and Logan Collins, who helped put the Bears’ rally hopes into hibernation.
