’s 16th Annual Ambassador’s Ball.
Five students will compete for scholarships Friday night at the Gilroy Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 16th Annual Ambassador’s Ball.

Finalists this year include Gilroy High School seniors Lupe Ramirez and Marbella Tovar and transferring Gavilan College students Victor Velasco, Angelica Olmos and Miriam Silvas.

They were finalists in the areas of leadership, community service and academic success and will receive scholarships ranging from $800 to $2850.

The event began in 1988 to acknowledge and encourage young adults with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and involvement in some aspect of community service to continue their educations and attend four-year universities. Area high school and Gavilan students are eligible to apply and area interviewed before the final selections.

All five finalists will receive a scholarship. Several other $500 scholarships will be awarded to other selected applicants.

The event at the Gilroy Elk’s Lodge begins with dinner at 7 p.m. with the program following. Tickets are $50 per person and/or $400 per table.
