Dorothy Torre (nee Filice)

Born July 14, 1921 in Gilroy; joined Carmelo, her beloved husband, in heaven on October 30, 2009. Like Carmelo just two weeks earlier, Dorothy died from complications caused by a broken hip, as well as heart failure. The look of peace and happiness on her face at the end should be of great comfort to all who loved her.

Dorothy received her Associate of Arts degree from Hartnell College and later worked for the railroad. While single, she enjoyed traveling all over the world with her friends, and some of her favorite memories were of her experiences as a passenger on a cruise ship that hit an iceberg in Alaska. She also spent many wonderful times with her mother, Louise Filice, and the families of her sister, Irene Vosti, and brothers, Eddie and Carmen Filice.

After Dorothy married Carmelo Torre in 1960, wonderful times also included Carmelo’s sister, Rosina, and her family. Settling first in Santa Cruz and later in Salinas, Dorothy and Carmelo raised two children, Mary Lou and Robert. Taking care of her family became Dorothy’s first priority, and she was the best wife, mother, and friend anyone could be. Dorothy was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Friends and family are invited to her funeral services, Monday, November 9, 2009 – 1:00 P.M. at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy. For those who are so inclined, Dorothy would be honored to have donations made in her name to the charity of the donor’s choice. More information: habingfamilyfuneralhome.com
