A story in the Friday, Oct. 17, issue about Morgan Hill Chief of Police Jerry Galvin’s retirement, The Times suggested that Clovis, where the chief will retire to, is in New Mexico. The Clovis in question is in California, near Fresno.
The story also could have led readers to believe that the City of Morgan Hill will be responsible for the chief’s entire retirement package. The city will undertake responsibility only for the two years during which the chief was employed by the city. The remaining responsibility will be divided among the other California cities – Marina, Vallejo, Clovis and others – for whom the chief has worked for 30 years. CALPERS, the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, assigns the percentage to the various cities, based upon Galvin’s years of service for them.
