Parents, families, siblings and friends of Morgan Hill Unified School District’s Class of 2020 lined a Saturday morning parade route cheering on more than 600 graduates from three high schools.

Their teachers, principals and district administrators are confident the graduating teens can meet the tasks ahead and leave an encouraging mark on the world.

Trust me, graduates, high school graduation is not at all like the movies crack it up to be. Most importantly, we are all coming together to show an outstanding level of support.

Local nonprofit and public organizations teamed up to honor Morgan Hill’s class of 2020 by displaying banners with all the graduates’ photos throughout the city’s downtown.

Morgan Hill’s Dean Tran, a senior at Sobrato High School, was one of only 161 students nationwide named a 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholar.

Supporters of Live Oak and Sobrato High Schools’ 2020 graduates have been busy selling yard signs for proud parents to let their neighbors know their senior is about to graduate.

Sobrato and Live Oak high schools both were recognized this year as one of the top public school sites in the country.

The Santa Clara County Office of Education took another big hit Wednesday as schools sites within the district were officially shut down through the end of the Spring semester.

Seven Bay Area county health officers, in collaboration with their six county superintendents of schools have made a unified, regional decision to extend school closures and student dismissals from regular school attendance through May 1, 2020 to slow the spread of COVID-19 to the maximum extent possible.

Even though schools are closed, school district staff and a host of local partners and volunteers are making sure students are well-fed during the current pandemic stay-home order.
