Good news for dog owners came out of Wednesday
’s City Council meeting when a dedicated dog park entered into
competition for funding in the 2004-05 budget.
Council decided, 5-0, to move the hope of such a park up by several years because of the clamor from dog friends in Morgan Hill. Mori Struve, deputy director of Public Works, was instructed to work on an agreement with PG&E allowing the city to use part of a 10-acre, mostly empty plot of land the utility company owns on West Main Avenue bounded by Nob Hill mountain and St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.

Struve showed pictures of dog parks in Sunnyvale and Mountain View, covered with turf or decomposed granite. Areas are fenced and have benches, shade and drinking fountains. A Morgan Hill dog park would save at least $40,000 by not installing restrooms, he said.

A citizens group said it was willing to help raise funds and seek grants.
