You hit the nail on the head when you brought our children back into focus in the editorial in Friday’s paper headlined ‘Dysfunction and distrust in our school district.’ After many years of meetings, phone calls, letters and escalation to outside agencies I exhausted every ounce of energy to see my son graduate and to be treated fairly.
If I could sum it up in one sentence, it would be that our educational system has become teacher-focused instead of student-focused. How did that happen and how can we turn that around?
I could write a book about my adventures with this district and I heartily applaud the parents that have picked up the gauntlet in order to repair this broken system. There are Band-aids everywhere but it’s time for the surgeon. Then and only then will we be able to heal and grow healthy once again. It is time to remove the old regime and put those who are willing to be accountable to the students and there families into these positions.
It would be unfair of me to fail to recognize the very good individuals that are employed by MHSD. To them I say, thanks for helping us as we passed through, you are remembered fondly.
