Commander (CDR) Kenneth Lynn Williams, United States Navy (USN), Retired, 68, of Morgan Hill, CA passed away peacefully, at his home on April 1, 2015, with his beloved wife, Cecilia, at his side.
Ken was battling ALS and made the decision to move on to “fair winds and following seas.”
CDR Williams was born in Geneva, IL to the late Alma Cummings and Jay Williams in 1946.
After moving west with his mother in 1950, he was raised by the late Chief Petty Officer (USN) Larry and Mrs. Cummings in California.
He graduated from Mt. Eden High School, in Hayward, CA in 1964 and won an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, graduating in 1968. Later, he earned his Master’s Degree from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA.
CDR Williams served the Nation for over 30 years with distinction as a Naval Officer and Aviator, most notably earning the Air Medal with two bronze strike/flight numerals for his actions in Vietnam and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Following the Vietnam War, CDR Williams hunted Soviet submarines as a P-3 Orion aviator during the Cold War. Ken’s service took him around the world to various ports-of-call including: Vietnam, Hawaii, Japan, Philippines, Iceland, and Alaska.
Ken will always be remembered as an outstanding leader and a consummate professional, who balanced his keen intellect with a sharp sense of humor.
More importantly, Ken was a devoted son, loving husband, brother and father.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Williams, of Alameda, CA.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Cecilia, of 43 years; his son, Ron Williams, Esq. and daughter-in-law, Kim Williams of Wilmington, DE; and son, LTC Kevin Williams, United States Army and daughter-in-law, Carrie Williams, stationed in Honolulu, HI; and four beautiful grandchildren, Madelyn, Daniel, Sarah, and Owen. He is also survived by his sister, Cheryl Cummings, of New York, NY; and his sister-in-law, Mary Williams Jensen, of Alameda, CA.
