As the last few college decisions are being mailed out many students are facing difficult and life changing decisions. Today, students had am opportunity to kick back and enjoy their hard work. Julia Rosenberg, ASB Commissioner of Academics, has been working diligently on putting together the Academic Ceremony for last semester. I say ceremony as opposed to brunch because Ms. Rosenberg has expanded on the usual brunch idea and evolved it into an honorary ceremony. Students who achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher will be recognized at the ceremony and will be allowed to go to out to lunch with parents. Ms. Rosenberg has been working with the principal and the ASB director to produce the academic ceremony.
On the topic of ASB, Norm Dow, the ASB director, made a presentation to the school board last Monday night about the ASB bookkeeper Pam Younce. The school board has been considering the possibility of dissolving the position of ASB bookkeeper as a way to cut costs. Mr. Dow adamantly points out that without Pam Younce, ASB wouldn’t be what it is. He presented collages of many different functions ASB organizes such as Junior and Senior and Proms, Homecoming activities, rallies and Battle of the Bands among others.
Last week’s Fire It Up rally was postponed due to what looked like a gloomy weather forecast. The rally was to be the first in a long while that would have united the whole school in one rally as opposed to two separate ones. Sandy Yam, ASB Commissioner of Rallies, has been working with the fire department to incorporate a fire truck into the rally.
For the next few weeks ASB nominations, interviews and elections will be held. Current ASB officers will help with the selection process for next years ASB President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary, who in turn will then help with selecting the ASB Commissioners they will be working with next year. Anyone interested is encouraged to go and get an application from the ASB office.
Carrie Dent, a senior at Live Oak, is commissioner of clubs.
