MHUSD Interim Superintendent Steve Betando

Presentations on the New Generation Science Standards and the 2015 summer school program as well as a quarterly update on Measure G projects and an announcement of Seal of Biliteracy awardees will be part of the busy May 26 Morgan Hill Unified School District school board meeting.

<

But two school board members, Gino Borgioli and David Gerard, might ask to cancel tonight’s meeting due to a perceived Brown Act violation. They believe the meeting was not correctly posted on the district website 72 hours in advance.

<

MHUSD Superintendent Steve Betando does not believe that to be the case and that the agenda was properly posted in accordance with the open meetings law.

<

Closed session will start as scheduled at 4:30 p.m. and public session will begin about 6 p.m. as the governing body will convene at the district office located at 15600 Concord Circle. Trustee Amy Porter Jensen will join via teleconference location in Burlington, Washington, according to the agenda.

A busy hiring season got even busier for MHUSD’s human resources department with Tuesday’s personnel order that includes the resignation of Central High School Principal Ann-Marie Cobarrubias after only one year at the continuation school, effective June 30.

<

Cobarrubias replaced former Central Principal Irene Macias-Morriss, who retired after 21 years with MHUSD, including her last 10 as head of the continuation school. Cobarrubias said a family matter prompted her sudden resignation.

<

“I love the district. The school [Central] is amazing,” said Cobarrubias, who didn’t rule out the possibility of a return to MHUSD once her family matter is sorted out but gave no timetable for how much time off will be necessary.

<

Cobarrubias’ departure follows that of Assistant Superintendent Norma Martinez-Palmer, who is resigning after three years with the district and 35 in education, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Arlene Machado, who is retiring after nearly 40 years at MHUSD. Those announcements were on the previous May 12 school board agenda.
Ross heads up district’s 2015 Teachers of Year

<

The district will recognize the 2015 Teachers of the Year from each school site at Tuesday’s meeting, along with the announcement of Lori Ross, a teacher at Los Paseos Elementary, as MHUSD’s 2015 Teacher of the Year. Ross is completing her 30th year as a teacher in the district, all spent at Los Paseos.

<

“She is truly a fixture in the Los Paseos community, so much so that children of previous students are now filling seats in her classroom,” according to the agenda. “As both a formal and informal mentor, Lori shares her wisdom with other educators.”
