City to install security cameras at Main Ave. bus depot

The City of Morgan Hill will use grant funds to equip the VTA bus depot on Main Avenue with security cameras.

The cameras and other site improvements at the bus stop will be funded mostly by Santa Clara County’s Community Development Block Grant, according to a City staff report.

The improvements, including staff time, labor and materials, will cost about $60,500, which will be available to the City by July 1, 2013.

“The proposed cameras may not only deter potential crimes but will also provide a very useful investigative tool for the police department,” the staff report reads. “Funds not used toward the security camera installation will be used for other safety-related or blight elimination site improvements at the depot,” such as lighting or improved disabled access.

The county’s Community Development Block Grant program provides funding to communities and organizations to improve property or services in predominantly lower-income neighborhoods.

The City Council approved the use of the funds for the bus depot improvements at its Dec. 5 meeting.

City Hall to close during holidays

City Hall and all City of Morgan Hill offices will be closed during the holidays, from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1, 2013.

Anyone who requires immediate assistance for water or wastewater related issues can call the Morgan Hill Police Department’s non-emergency number at (408) 779-2101.

Police and fire services will be functioning normally during the holiday closure, according to City staff.

Also, limited public works inspections, building inspections and emergency utility services will be available.
