The truth about the proposed Wal-Mart Super Center, is that it
would not be such a super center.
EDITOR:
The truth about the proposed Wal-Mart Super Center, is that it would not be such a super center. Here are just a few of the truths about Wal-Mart:
• No company in America is sued more than Wal-Mart, over 5,000 times each year
• State of Washington took away Wal-Mart’s right to self insure workers comp claims, due to widespread abuse of its workers and for avoiding entitled payments.
• Wal-Mart is currently fighting the largest class action gender discrimination suit, which potentially will cover over 700,000 current and former female workers.
• Wal-Mart is also defending against more than two dozen suits for unpaid wages. Wal-mart is accused of illegally changing employees time records.
• Wal-Mart discriminates against African-American and Latino employees with strip searches (as reported in Cleveland), and harassment of interracial couples. Finally, when an employee does complain, they are fired.
• Wal-Mart continues to be embarrassed by frequent findings of sexual harassment.
• Wal-Mart paid the highest fine in the history of the state of Maine for a record number of child labor law violations, totaling 1,436 violations in just 20 stores.
• Wal-Mart admits that the insurance it provides, to only 1/3 of its employees, is little more than, “catastrophic coverage.”
Wal-Mart is not a super place. Wal-Mart is not a good neighbor. If Wal-Mart is allowed to open its Super Center, it will slowly bleed the community of its hometown resources. Many small and large businesses will close due to Wal-Mart’s predatory pricing.
Wal-Mart is not pro-America, as it purchases its products from overseas slave labor sweat shops. The clothes with the “Made it the USA” tag, are made overseas . Only the tag itself, is made in the USA. Wal-Mart has a 50 percent turnover rate of employees – annually.
I strongly encourage everyone in Gilroy, Hollister and Morgan Hill to let the Gilroy City Council know that you do not want a Super Center in Gilroy. Help to preserve our “hometown” atmosphere.
