California Pitching Academy CEO and head instructor and Morgan Hill Times’ columnist Rich Taylor has been named an associate scout for the New York Mets.

His duties will include evaluating high school players in the greater San Jose region and the Monterey Bay area.

Taylor was named to the position by area scout Kevin Brand and regional supervisor Tim Fortugno.

“I’m extremely pleased to be working with Tim and Kevin and an organization like the Mets,” said Taylor. “I know a few people within the organization that I have a lot of respect for, and this is a chance for me to get back evaluating players, which is one of my strengths, and leaves the door open for things I may want to do in the future.”

Currently getting ready to launch the ACE Fall Arm Strengthening Tour with the California Pitching Academy, Taylor will begin his duties immediately for the Mets by attending showcases, fall leagues and various other tryout events.

“Eventually, I want to get back into pro baseball in some capacity,” Taylor said. “And although that’s a long way down the road, this gets me started on that track.”

None of the California Pitching Academy programs or instruction will be affected by Taylor’s new responsibilities with the Mets, and as he puts it, “it will be business as usual.”
