Dear Editor,
Last Saturday was Coastal Cleanup Day, an annual event in which people throughout California pick up litter along local creeks and rivers. The event is organized to protect the state’s environment and wildlife and keep pollutants from reaching the ocean.
Morgan Hill’s Ponds Parks Trails Volunteers hosted the cleanup of a portion of Llagas Creek in our city. Our group had fun meeting Morgan Hill residents Howard and Mary Nelson, Mark and Colleen Grzan, and Marlene Amerian who all participated Saturday morning in removing about 90 pounds of trash. A big thank you for your splendid job cleaning our city’s creek!
Our group also encourages all residents of Morgan Hill to continuously safeguard our local environment by placing trash in waste receptacles. We especially encourage smokers to not leave their used cigarette butts on the ground. The toxins in these butts can get washed into waterways and poison the environment.
