Students who wore American flag clothing deserve apology

Dear Editor,

I am not a resident of your area although it is a beautiful place to visit. (My son and I attended all three San Jose Grand Prix races and camped in Morgan Hill, home of race champion Jimmy Vasser.)

However, and with all due respect, it appears to me that Live Oak is dead from the trunk up.

Sorry, but political correctness should never trump what is lawfully allowed.

These students and their parents deserve an apology.

Thank you for reading,

Everyone, including immigrants, should conform to our laws

Dear Editor,

The vice principle and principle need to remember that this is the United State of America and any Mexicans living here are to conform to our laws/rules, etc. My mother is an immigrant as well as my wife. Neither one of them object to learning English and conforming to our laws and way of life. If living here and observing our flag is found to be offensive or as it was put “incendiary,” then return to your country and live there. Why is it that some individuals seem to enjoy the benefits and freedom of living here in the United States and complain about our policies. Become a citizen and vote. Don’t even get me started on the subject of illegal immigration.

Fly it high and fly it proud

Dear Editor,

Only in America can we send our children home from school for wearing an American flag on their chest. I think that is fantastic! I raised my children in the great state of Idaho, in the greatest country on the planet, the United States of America. I reside in southern Idaho not in the north where our famous White Supremacists hail from. My children went to public schools. They were constantly subject to Latino-American students wearing Brown Pride T-shits. Not once did the school send them home to change their shirt. One day a student wore a White Pride T-shirt. He was suspended for two days (yes he was Caucasian).

We live in America. We are all Americans, we will never be a melting pot when we have to have monikers for every race in our country. When I received my census this year I did not see a spot on there for Irish-Anglo-American. I am very proud of my heritage. If I pronounce that, I am a racist. Wrong, I am an American.

I have several friends of Mexican and African heritage. We all fly American flags every day of the year. My Latino friends fly on the 5th of May as do I. So should I be sent home from work on the 5th of May to take it down, I don’t think so. Why you ask? This is America, that is why! I would love to see the Live Oak principal tell a veteran of our beloved country to take the flag he or she risked their lives for to take down their flag on the 5th of May. If you do, I might suggest to wear something bullet proof. Those children should not have been sent home even if their intentions were spiteful. They are Americans and that is their flag!!

Fly it high and fly it proud. If you are not an American then you really don’t have a voice in what we do or how we run our country.

If any country is disrespected, it’s America

Dear Editor,

We’ve come a long way in this country since I came from Cuba in 1962, and a lot of it has been on a downward trajectory.

What these “Mexican American” students need to realize first of all is that, 5 de Mayo, is not an officially recognized holiday. Second, you’re living in America and your allegiance is to America first. So, if any country is getting disrespected, it’s America.

The problems with so many of our dear Mexican friends is that they have forgotten what side their bread is buttered on, and its not on the Mexican side or else they wouldn’t be here today.

Decisions by LOHS administrators need to be discussed

Dear Editor,

The qualifications of the principal and vice principal at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, must be reviewed by the superintendent of schools, the entire school board as well as by every concerned citizen of this community and country. The misguided action Wednesday April 5 by the Live Oak High School principal and vice principal; when five students wearing shirts depicting our American flag were made to leave the campus or not display the flag symbols is reprehensible, un-American and disrespectful of the student’s constitutional rights. It is appalling that this decision by the principal and vice principal could actually happen in our country.

Allowing some students on the same day to wear clothing depicting a foreign government’s flag while denying other students right to wear clothing with the American flag must be examined in a public forum. We do not need people of this mentality in positions of authority in our public school system. Appropriate public investigation and disclosure of the consequences of the matter is required and demanded.

This incident cannot be swept under the carpet. School authorities cannot be allowed to repeat anything like this in the future.
