The South Bay Elite All-Star cheerleaders recently returned from Anaheim where they competed at the USA National Cheerleading All-Star Nationals.
The locally based program with teams in Morgan Hill and Mountain View took four teams to the National Championship 2 day competition at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Teams from California, Arizona, Texas, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico participated in this event all with the hopes of becoming the USA National Cheerleading champions.
The Junior and Co-ed teams took third, and the Senior Prep took sixth in the nation at this extremely difficult competition.
On day one of the two-day tournament, the teams got off to a great start with the junior program setting the pace with a dynamic and solid start.
They performed with great energy and solid execution.
This team of mainly eight graders and below was able to “stick” all of their stunts solidly and with precision.
After competing against 30 teams in their division, this solid performance positioned them in the finals the next day, where they placed third out of twelve finalists.
The Small Senior Prep team performed nearly a flawless routine on the first day.
They scored high enough against 20 other teams in their division to allow them into the finals the following day where they placed sixth out of nine finalists.
The large seniors got off to a rocky start on day one. Hampered by injuries, the team was eliminated from the finals.
The highlight of the competition came from the South Bay Elite Small co-ed team.
This team had a two-day shootout with nationally ranked Champion Outlaws and West Coast Mavericks out of San Diego.
All three teams put very dynamic and solid routines on the floor both days.
When they hit the floor the house of about four thousand competitors, spectators and cheer enthusiasts went from a loud, deafening noise level to an intense hush.
The intensity could be felt all through the room and it was very apparent what was on the line.
South Bay performed a flawless routine that left every person in the room on their feet yelling. They scored high and positioned themselves third.
South Bay is featuring “Cheernastics” in Morgan Hill on Tuesdays and Thursdays, great fun for kids in elementary. Cheernastics is a combination of conditioning and cheer.
