Lady Bulldogs’ continue to battle in league; young team
short-handed on bench
Morgan Hill – Youth, inexperience and lack of bench depth have handicapped the Sobrato Bulldogs girls soccer team in their first varsity season.
Sobrato (3-9-1, 1-6 TCAL) fell to the Salinas Cowboys, 2-1 on Saturday at home.
The Bulldogs’ defense fought hard to deny the Cowboys (8-4-2, 4-2-2 TCAL) in front of the goal.
Salinas struck first in the 24th minute on a penalty kick by Mikaela Bozzo that zipped past Sobrato goalkeeper Katrina Olson.
With a 1-0 lead at halftime, Salinas opened up the second half with a goal by Holly Fudenna on a corner kick by Bozzo.
Trailing 2-0, the Lady Bulldogs refused to be shutout. Forward Ashley Grose cut the lead to 2-1 on a ball from midfielder Kayla Nishimatsu that found the back of the Salinas net.
The Cowboys defense tightened up, however, and prevented Sobrato from getting any closer.
The Lady Bulldogs take on the TCAL’s second place team in the North Salinas Vikings (10-2-1, 6-2 TCAL) in Salinas today at 3:30pm.
