It was a split for the Tri-County Athletic League in last weekend’s Central Coast Section football championships at San Jose City College.

TCAL representatives San Benito High of Hollister and Palma High of Salinas both competed in the section finals, with the Haybalers dropping a 26-12 decision to Aptos in the Division II champ-ionship, while Palma claimed the Division I title with a 17-13 victory over St. Francis.

In Friday night’s game between No. 4-seeded San Benito and No. 2-seeded Aptos, the Haybalers took control of the game early and led 12-6 before the Mariners rallied.

San Benito’s scores came from running back Manny Hinojos, who scored from the one-foot-line after Chris Brigantino rumbled 47 yards to the Aptos 1, and quarterback Karson Klauer, who scored on a two-yard scramble in the second quarter.

San Benito finished the season 9-3-1 overall.
