Rosemary Maida passed away suddenly the morning of July 3rd, 2016, having lived a full and vibrant 86 years.
She was surrounded by a family she cherished, one that cherished her in return.
Born Rose Marie Filice on June 27th, 1930 to parents, Pasquale and Louise Filice of Gilroy, she declared herself “Rosemary” at an early age and the name stuck.
Rosemary attended Notre Dame High School in Belmont where she thrived, singing in the choir.
She married her husband, Anthony Ernest Maida, in 1949 and the couple had two children, Rosalind and Anthony Junior (Tony).
Anthony and Rosemary ran a farm and several successful small businesses until Anthony’s death in 1985. They were devoted and beloved members of the Gilroy community.
In addition to being a fastidious manager and bookkeeper, Rosemary was accomplished at needlepoint and left her family many beautiful works to reflect upon.
Above all, Rosemary was a shining example of endurance. She persevered through countless health crises via true grit and a sunny disposition to continue her life’s work of spoiling her grandchildren. They will fondly recall the way Rosemary relished every book, film, flower, kindred spirit and baby she encountered. Rosemary was loyal, generous, compassionate and inspiring.
Quite simply, she was a spectacular person.
Rosemary is survived by her daughter, Rosalind Louise Farotte and son-in-law, Gordon E. Farotte Jr. of Gilroy; her son, Dr. Anthony E. Maida III and daughter-in-law, Sharon Lee Maida of Danville; grandchildren, Andrew Farotte, Elizabeth Heenan (Josh), Alexis Maida, Kelsey Maida-Pettinelli (Robbie), and Jacqueline Maida; and great-granddaughter, Amelia Heenan.
