Roni went to many schools growing up as the daughter of naval personnel, finishing high school on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. She became a widow from first husband James Roach, April 1969, while living in Japan with their two children. Roni married Jack Vanderbilt, whom she remained married to until her death, living their lives in Hollister.

Roni has done many things and had many titles over the years, from working at Teledyne as their bookkeeper for ten years to running her own travel agency with her mother.
