The Oakwood Hawks boys basketball team traveled to Scotts Valley this past Friday, earning a 78-22 win over Kirby Prep.
Once again, Oakwood played with their fast paced and attack style. The Hawks jumped out to an early 22-8 first quarter lead and then cruised home from there.
Oakwood has now outscored their last two opponents by the total score of 166-38.
Everyone played for the 19-2 Hawks and everyone continues to play at a very high level.
Zac Jenkins led Oakwood with 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Nate Schilling finished with 19 points, six rebounds and four steals. Youssef Eshra tossed in with 11 points, 12 assists and eight steals.
Oakwood is back in action this Wednesday night at home against York at 7 p.m. This will also be Oakwood’s Senior Night. There will be three games that day: Boys junior varsity at 4 p.m., girls varsity at 5:30 p.m. and boys varsity at 7 p.m.
Live Oak falls at Silver Creek
The Live Oak boys basketball team played a solid three quarters of offense, but it couldn’t make up for a slow first quarter nor could it compensate for a strong Raiders offense.
The Acorns fell 70-43, losing each of the four quarters after going down 15-5 to start the game.
Chris French led Silver Creek with 19 points followed by Legacion Louie and Lucas Millan with 10 points.
Luke Laguna led Live Oak with 10 points.
The Acorns enter their final two games of the season, starting on the road against Prospect 7 p.m. Wednesday. Live Oak will finish the season by hosting Sobrato Friday on Senior Night.
Girls Basketball
Lyon, Gunther lead Live Oak in win over Andrew Hill
The Live Oak girls basketball team defeated Andrew Hill 46-24 Saturday in a make up game from the week before.
The two teams were supposed play Jan. 31 but lights in the Hill gym blew out, forcing the game to be postponed.
The Acorns went into the game trying to make up for a 32-28 loss to Independence on Thursday.
Live Oak against Independence held the 76ers to 19 points for three quarters, but the Acorns couldn’t get their shots to fall.
After going up 10-4 in the first quarter, Live Oak couldn’t muster more than six points a quarter the rest of the way.
Independence chipped away at the lead and finally overtook the Acorns in the fourth quarter, putting up 13.
Fayth Lyon led the Acorns with eight.
Two days later, Lyon had 14, followed by Amy Gunther who had 13 to pull out the 22-point win.
Live Oak held the Falcons to no more than seven points per quarter and three points in the fourth.
Ilisapeti Saulala led the team with nine rebounds, followed by Jocelyn Mendoza with seven.
