The Oakwood boys basketball team won the consolation bracket of the Kings Academy Tournament this past weekend. Oakwood was the only Division V school in the tournament.
Following Thursday night’s tough defeat to a powerful Half Moon Bay squad, Oakwood bounced back to beat Overfelt High School, on Friday night, 43-42. On Saturday in the Consolation final, Oakwood defeated the host school, The Kings Academy, by the final score of 57-49.
Youssef Eshra was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Justin Mortensen was also recognized as he had an amazing tournament. In the consolation final, Mortensen finished with a game high 27 points; eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
Oakwood comes home to face Branham tonight with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
Oakwood girls rout Summit Tahoma
Latai Saulala and Lindsey Boyd lifted the Oakwood girls basketball team to a 45-14 win over Summit Tahoma each recording double-doubles for the night on Saturday.
Oakwood improved to 2-0 in the young season.
Saulala and Boyd each had 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Hawks held Summit to four points through three quarters.
The freshman Saulala added three blocked shots for the game.
Sophie Koldewyn added 10 points followed by Janine Bautista with six.
Oakwood jumped out to a 25-2 halftime lead and put up 15 more points in the third quarter before coasting to a win in the fourth.
The Hawks next travel to North Monterey County tonight for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
Live Oak girls hoops win easy over North Monterey County
The Live Oak girls basketball team picked up its second win of the season in dominating fashion over North Monterey County, Saturday, 50-34.
The Acorns held a 21-point lead going into the fourth quarter when NMC finally got some points on the board. But it wasn’t enough as Live Oak rode 15-, 13- and 13-point quarters to take a commanding lead.
Live Oak (2-1) will next host Overfelt Tuesday with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
Live Oak girls soccer advances to finals in Watsonville Tourney
The Live Oak girls soccer team won its second game of the Watsonville Tournament to advance to the finals after a 3-0 rout of Pacific Grove on Thursday.
The Acorns (2-0) previously edged out Santa Cruz, 2-1 on Tuesday.
Game time and opponent for the finals are still to be announced.
The Acorns will play their home opener 5 p.m. tonight against Sobrato.
Live Oak boys lose in heart-breaker
A 15-point fourth quarter from Lincoln handed Live Oak its third straight loss to start the season, Saturday, falling 36-34.
The Acorns (0-3) held a six-point lead heading into the final frame but watched as the deficit disappeared.
Live Oak got out to a fast start, taking a 13-11 lead after the first quarter and a 20-16 lead at halftime.
The defense, meanwhile, did its job holding the Lions to a combined 10 points through the second and third quarters.
Josh Carvalho led the scoring for Live Oak with seven points followed by Justin Baker with six and Symon Tan and Mitch Conforti each with five.
Live Oak came into the game on the heels of a 55-47 loss against Saratoga on Thursday.
The Acorns will next travel to Pajaro Valley Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tip.
