The Live Oak girls basketball team nearly overcame a slow start against Leigh Friday night, but ultimately fell 57-53 to the Longhorns.
The Acorns fall to 9-9 overall and 3-5 in Santa Teresa Division play.
Fayth Lyon had her best scoring night of the year, putting up 17 in the loss despite hitting just two field goals. Lyon was a perfect 12-12 from the freethrow line to go with a 3-pointer and a two.
The Acorns for the night shot 21-28 from the charity stripe.
Live Oak stumbled out of the blocks, falling behind 14-4 after the first quarter. Thanks to an 18-point effort in the second, the Acorns pulled to within seven at the half.
That margin fell to nine after the third quarter, but Live Oak put up a respectable 19 points in the fourth to make a run at the Longhorns.
After Lyon’s 17, Amy Gunther put up 12 points, followed by Jennifer Rosales and Grace Smith who each had six.
Live Oak will next travel to Lincoln for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday and will return home Thursday to face Hill at 7 p.m.
