SPORTS SHORTS: LOHS, SHS taking part in Dig Pink girls volleyball event Saturday

Local volleyball teams at home today
MORGAN HILL — Exciting league openers are on tap this week for several local fall teams.

The girls volleyball squads host their conference openers today as Live Oak plays Evergreen Valley in a pivotal Mount Hamilton Division match, and Sobrato welcomes Oak Grove in the Santa Teresa Division. Both games are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Old water polo rivals clash again Wednesday when the Leland Chargers visit Live Oak in a Mount Hamilton twin bill beginning with the girls game at 3 p.m. The boys follow about two hours later.

The Sobrato water polo teams have a Mount Hamilton doubleheader scheduled for the same times Wednesday against visiting Pioneer.

In cross country, Live Oak will visit Montgomery Hill, and Sobrato heads to Alumni Rock Park this week to begin league meets. The Acorns face Yerba Buena and Gunderson at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the West Valley Division, and the Bulldogs take on Westmont in Santa Teresa competition at 3 p.m. today.

The Sobrato field hockey team hosts its West Valley opener against University at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Acorns visit Lynbrook at 3:30 p.m. in Santa Teresa play.

Sobrato girls tennis hosts back-to-back home matches today and Thursday in the Mount Hamilton. The Acorns visit Mount Pleasant this afternoon and face visiting Oak Grove on Thursday.

Both local football have a bye before playing their league openers Oct. 1. Live Oak hosts Santa Teresa for homecoming in the Mount Hamilton, while the Bulldogs visit Independence.
