On March 22, I went to the public library to help my two children with their research papers from school. At first we were in the children’s section, the only place in the Morgan Hill Library I had previously been.
This time, I needed information in the regular section (636.1) on horses. I was with my daughters – 8 and 2 years old. After we found our books we were coming to the end of the aisle where the computers are located. I looked up while talking to my daughter and I saw pornography on a man’s computer screen (according to the library it was a privacy screen). The pornography was bad but the worst was yet to come. This man had a sexual experience right there in the library, in public, in front of me and my children (body movements, facial expressions and sounds).
My point is, we don’t let people do these things in other public places. Anyone caught would be removed and/or arrested. Why are we allowing people to do this in our library, in front of us and our children? The library is for higher learning, not a place to have sex. Pornography causes bodily stimulations that lead to the type of behavior we witnessed. How can we allow this in our public library where schools send tender children to do research and acquire special learning? I can no longer allow my children to go to the library and risk this kind of exposure.
We have laws that stop this kind of behavior in public places. Stop letting people publicly stimulate themselves in our libraries.
