Do you trust that PG
&
amp;E has adequately installed and maintained gas lines?
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
“Do you trust that PG&E has adequately installed and maintained gas lines?” Yes: 5 No: 7
? Karen Anderson: “No. I think they are more interested in their stockholders than customers though, considering how many lines they have, it is amazing more have not had issues.”
? Dave Appling: “No, of course not. Do we trust BP after Deepwater Horizon? And what, if any, fail-safe systems does PG&E have in place?”
? Bert Berson: “No. PG&E needs to be held accountable for rate hikes, ballot measures, smart meters, and gas lines. Let’s wake up the Public Utilities Commission!”
? Chris Bryant: “Yes, it is a big job and like all of our infrastructure, requires more attention.”
? Bob Chidester: “Obviously not. Since this horrible disaster occurred, the system maintenance program must be flawed. My concern is over the rumors that residents in the neighborhood complained about gas odors weeks before the accident. If PG&E had spent their $250,000 on gas line inspections instead of spending it on the campaign to defeat Prop. 8 (the gay marriage initiative), perhaps this disaster could have been prevented.”
? David Cohen: “Yes. Accidents do happen and we’ll know exactly what happened in a year or so when the NTSB report is issued.”
? Mary Anne Groen: “Based on their record, no. Now, where was that line running near my house?!”
? Dennis Kennedy: “No! They should spend our utility bill money on maintaining, upgrading, inspecting and testing our gas pipelines and not on wasting it on unpopular, wrong spirited political campaigns.”
? Julian Mancias: “Yes. I believe that the San Bruno tragedy was an isolated incident.”
? Henry Miller: “Yes. Nothing man-made is perfect. Considering the extent of PG&E facilities, they have a good, if not perfect, track record. The catastrophic failure in San Bruno is sad and ill-fated. But so were the Challenger disaster, the Titanic and so many others man-made systems.”
? Lisa Pampuch: “No. The San Bruno blast raises serious doubt about that. It seems that PG&E should have spent the time, energy and $44 million it squandered trying to pass the egregiously self-serving Proposition 16 on infrastructure monitoring and maintenance instead.” ? Jeff Smith: “Yes.”
