Penn freshman Amanda Schlaefer of Morgan Hill has been named
Rookie of the Week by the Eastern College Athletic Conference,
following an impressive debut in the Jan. 15 Lindsey Ferris
Invitational in Washington D.C. Schlaefer placed seventh in vault
and tied for eighth in beam with career-high scores of 9.7 and
9.65, respectively. She was Penn’s top finisher in beam and helped
the Quakers place third overall and first among ECAC teams.

Schlaefer placed seventh in vault and tied for eighth in beam with career-high scores of 9.7 and 9.65, respectively. She was Penn’s top finisher in beam and helped the Quakers place third overall and first among ECAC teams.
It was the first competition in more than a year for Schlaefer, who was injured during her entire senior year at Valley Christian High School.
Schlaefer previously competed for Bay Aerials Gymnastics in Fremont and Champions Academy of Morgan Hill.
Men’s soccer
Simon Fraser goalkeeper Sheldon Steenhuis, a Live Oak graduate, has been named to the NCAA Division II All West Region first team after finishing 14-0-1 with six shutouts during the Clan’s first undefeated season.
Steenhuis also made the all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference second team and has been awarded Simon Fraser’s SFUEFA Cup for scoring the highest in intrasquad drills and competitions.
The GNAC champion Clan was ranked No. 1 in the final NCAA D-II poll.
