Born on August 28, 1927 in Palompon, Leyte, Philippine Islands married Sulpicio Magsalay Calimpong on February 13, 1946. He passed away on December 25, 1984. They met in her hometown while he served in the US Army. They came the USA in February 1947 and lived in Salinas, Cupertino, San Martin before settling in Gilroy in 1955. Pelagia worked at Gilroy Foods for 30 years before retiring. Pelagia loved to cook and made sure everyone who visited was well fed. You couldn’t leave if you weren’t. She enjoyed gardening and loved tending to her roses. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy. Pelagia is survived by; her sister, Sophia Miramontes of Gilroy, and her brother, Frank Viacrusis of the Philippine Islands. She is also survived by her 10 children: Elsie Dumagan of Gilroy, Art Calimpong of Gilroy, David Calimpong of Hawaii, Ben Calimpong of Gilroy, Conrad Calimpong of Ferndale, Jerry Calimpong of Morgan Hill, Katherine Visperas of Morgan Hill, Maretta Juarez of Gilroy, Patsi Calimpong of Gilroy, and Leonard Calimpong of Gilbert, AZ and their spouses. She is also survived by her 27 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial gifts and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org, and the National Breast Cancer Foundation, www.nationalbreastcancer.org.
