The Orchard Valley Toros U11 Class 1 girls soccer team came away undefeated last weekend in the California State Cup preliminary round. The girls now have a couple of weeks to get ready for the State Cup Round of 16.

The Toros will continue State Cup play on Feb. 12 at the Morgan Hill Soccer Complex.

Game 1 saw the Toros pull off a spectacular 4-0 win over the Roosevelt Revolution. Jennae Cambra put the Toros on the board with a strong goal to the back post and Breanna Rose added a goal of her own. Megan Rauschnot followed with a curled shot from about 45 yards to make the score 3-0 Toros. The midfielders continued their excellent play with Katelyn Nebesnick, Taylor Pencer and Sara Sauceda making nice touch passes, one of which went to Holly Dunwoodie who put one in the back of the net to for the final Toros goal.

The Toros then took on the Central Valley Spirit, a very strong team that had given them trouble throughout the year. The score remained tied 0-0 for most of the first half as Toro defenders Sarina Sandoval, Dani Hemeon and Kirsten Doting simply outworked the Spirit players. With just a few minutes left in the first half, Cambra drove down the left side of the field, had a nice overlap with Nebesnick then blasted one past the diving Spirit goalie. Katie Machado put the game out of reach in the last few minutes of the second half as she scored off a nice cross by Cambra to make the final score 2-0.

To advance to the final round of 16, the Toros knew they needed to beat the very tough MVLA Freedom. In a very heated, aggressive and hard-fought match, Cambra once again came through, scoring two more goals and just missing a hat trick on an offside call, leading the Toros to a 2-1 victory.
