The Morgan Hill Times Aug. 17 editorial supporting the Condit Road outdoor recreation complex is misleading and misinformed. The complex, wonderful in its concept and design, in my opinion will not serve the Redevelopment Agency (RDA). It is funded by RDA dollars but does not fulfill the intent and mission of the RDA and that is a concern. The primary purpose of the complex as stated in the authorizing resolution as approved by the City Council is to bring jobs, new development, reduce crime and blight within the RDA project area.  The new sports complex does not do that.

Fear Mongers are the Real Enemies

The proposal to build the bullet train in California is proof that socialists have taken-over our government. Based on past cost overruns, the price tag on this extreme boondoggle is about $75-$80 billion in today's dollars. Paid back interest on these bonds will also burden our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with billions more. Annual operating losses will exceed those of all light rails combined. Fares won't cover 1 percent of operating expenses, estimated at $1 billion per year. Bond debt will bury us.

How the public's money is being spent needs to be open to

During the Fourth of July parade in downtown Morgan Hill, as veterans, active duty personnel, and reservists marched, I was moved to see spectators along the route get up from their lawn chairs, the street curb and blankets to stand and honor them for their service and sacrifices. We owe a lot to our fighting men and women in the armed forces and their families. But beyond standing in respect during a parade, or adhering a bumper sticker to our car, or pinning a ribbon to our lapel, are we as a country doing enough in response to the soldiers' health care needs and to ease their transition back to civilian life?

I have not written a column in a long time. Rather, I have spent months trying to understand what is happening with water in California. There are some who have made this a career, so I will not claim their level of specific expertise. Rather, I hope that you will follow along while I try to provide some perspective on the California Water problems as I see them.

The Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce should give serious

If you want to get my dander up, one surefire method is to suggest that a public policy issue shouldn't even be discussed.
