MH Student Wins Again in Rotary Speech Contest

LIVE OAK HIGH SCHOOL junior Abe Butte defeated three other Rotary Club speech contest winners from Gilroy, San Juan Bautista and Hollister during the area Rotary Youth Speech Contest March 21 at the Golden Oak Restaurant in Morgan Hill.

Center Opens in Gilroy to Aid Struggling Students

THE HUNTINGTON LEARNING CENTER, 737 First St., in Gilroy, opened its doors to students struggling with basic skills in mathematics, reading, study skills, test anxiety and other factors Feb. 28.

The GAVILAN COLLEGE Cosmetology Department will present its spring style show 12 noon to 1pm, March 28, at the Student Center, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd., Gilroy.

Math Mardi Gras Returns to Morgan Hill March 25

The AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF MATHEMATICS will host the second annual Math Mardi Gras competition Sunday, March 25, 12 noon-4pm at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center.  

Spotlight: Battle of the Bands at Sobrato High

Thirteen bands played to a crowded gym March 3 during Sobrato High School's Battle of the Bands. The annual contest attracts student bands and local amateurs. 'Good Intentions,' and 'The Figureheads,'along with the rest of the lineup, kept the crowd on their feet during the four-hour show. Live Oak High School held its 'Battle of the Bands' Saturday.

LIVE OAK HIGH SCHOOL junior Abe Butte has won the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill's 2007 Youth Speech Contest. His five-minute speech on the theme 'Lead the Way' was delivered in competition before the club on Feb. 28.

Free Educational Programs for Schools

W.E.R.C., the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center, has received grants from Cisco Systems, Calpine and Air Systems Foundation to provide educational programs to public elementary schools in Morgan Hill, Gilroy and Hollister. Availability of grant money is on a first-come, first-served basis.
