Recently, after spending many hours tending the flower planters in the Downtown, I have come to a disturbing observation.
Very seldom do the motorists slow or stop for pedestrians crossing the Monterey Highway at non-signaled intersections, in spite of the signs the City of Morgan Hill has installed.
Several citizens have told me that they have barely escaped being hit. One told me that when she was crossing, the traffic slowed and stopped, but a motorcyclist refused to stop and almost hit her. There is a proliferation of motorcyclists, which has added a distressing noise factor.
Isn’t there something that can be done? There is too much speed and too many motorcycles. It will be difficult to cultivate a downtown that is people friendly if we don’t initiate some changes.
