Victoria Santiago, a worker with Morgan Hill Unified School District, was one of six classified employees from across the county nominated for the state’s Classified School Employee of the Year award.
Santiago, a bilingual instructional aide at Barrett Elementary School, will proceed to the state level as part of the California Department of Education’s annual Classified Employee of the Year recognition program. She is under consideration in the category of Paraeducator and Instructional Assistance.
Santiago was selected by staff from Santa Clara County Office of Education from more than two dozen nominations across the six employee categories in the program.
“It was an honor to serve as a judge for this important process,” said SCCOE Deputy Superintendent Mary Ann Dewan. “The accomplishments of the nominees were all very impressive. Clearly, the nominees are making a significant impact on their school communities they serve.”
The other honorees are: Keli DaSilva of Gilroy Unified School District under Child Nutrition; Adan Barajas of Oak Grove Elementary School District under Maintenance, Operations and Facilities; Omar Gutierrez of East Side Union School District under Office and Technical; Eva Chestnut of Moreland School District under Services and Security; and Jesus Contreras of Campbell Union School District under Transportation.”
The Santa Clara County Board of Education will recognize the honorees during Classified School Employee Week at the May 18 meeting. They will go on to compete against other school districts at the statewide level. Awardees will be announced by the California Department of Education this month and honored at an event in Sacramento in May.
