The Morgan Hill A Team won a pair of games over the weekend to advance to the quarterfinals of the Bronco Division Sectional All Star tournament.

In Saturday’s tournament opener against Fremont, Morgan Hill managed a close 6-5 victory. Jerry Jacob provided key RBIs and some aggressive baserunning, while also combining with Andy Muller to pitch Morgan Hill to victory.

Muller followed up that effort by pitching a complete game, two-hit shut out and Jacob drove in two runs with a double to lead Morgan Hill to a win over San Bruno to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Morgan Hill A Team will square off with San Jose PAL on Wednesday at 5:30pm at Britton Middle School. The winner will move to the semifinals on Saturday at 10am and the loser will fall to the loser’s bracket and play on Friday at 5:30pm for a second chance to advance to the semis.

The Morgan Hill Gold team also opened up All-Star tournament play with a solid win.

Clayton Howard pitched a complete game, six-hitter to get the 3-1 win against Blossom Valley. Howard struck out six and Morgan Hill was lead by Michael Lemmon, who had a run-scoring single in the fourth inning to supply all the runs Morgan Hill would need.

Blossom Valley scratched out a run in the sixth, but with two on and one out, Tyler Lerma fielded a grounder, tagged a runner and converted the double play to kill the only serious threat Blossom Valley ever mounted.

The Morgan Hill Gold wouldn’t fare as well on Sunday as they fell to San Jose PAL, despite RBI hits from Lemmon and Joseph Tuttle.

The Gold fell to the loser’s bracket and played Santa Clara on Tuesday evening, with the result not being available at press time.

The Morgan Hill Green team fell to San Jose PAL in the first round and lost again to Blossom Valley on Sunday to get eliminated from tournament play. Morgan Hill Gray also lost in the first round, falling to Los Altos No. 1 before rebounding to beat San Jose Pacific No. 2 in the loser’s bracket on Sunday. Sean Silveria pitched three shutout innings in the win.

MUSTANG DIVISION

In opening round play of the Mustang Division, the Morgan Hill A team earned a blowout win over Los Altos No. 2 to move to the second round against Fremont on Sunday.

In that game, Morgan Hill again was victorious and will now face off against Blossom Valley No. 1 on Wednesday at 5:30pm in the semifinals at Britton Middle School.

The Morgan Hill Green team lost both of its games to get eliminated from tournament play. After a tough loss to Blossom Valley No. 1 in the opener, Morgan Hill responded with a solid game against Los Altos No. 2 on Sunday in the loser’s bracket but lost a 6-5 heartbreaker.

PINTO DIVISION

The Morgan Hill A Team kept itself alive in the Pinto Division tournament by beating Fremont in the loser’s bracket on Saturday.

Morgan Hill’s run ended Sunday however, as they lost to San Jose PAL, who went on to beat Lakewood and earn a berth in the finals against Seaside.
