The Morgan Hill Pony Palomino Athletics baseball team had a busy weekend of playing ball last weekend.
After returning from graduation break, the Athletics (3-7) lost 19-1 against Almaden, who they played again Monday night.
On Saturday, the Athletics were on the other side of a lopsided game, defeating Santa Cruz 10-1 at Harvey West Park. Homestead High product Chris McKim pitched a complete game two-hitter. He had a no-hitter going into the fifth inning and a shutout going into the seventh inning.
Live Oak players Kyle Bennett (4-for-4) and Dave Newton (3-for-5) had strong outings offensively.
On Sunday, the Athletics lost 3-1 to Pleasanton. Scott Hayslip went three innings, giving up a run, before Scott Moquin came in to get out of a bases-loaded jam. Moquin gave up two runs; one was unearned and the other came off a home run.
Kyle Yamashita, who had two of the Athletics’ three hits, doubled in the second inning and scored on a base hit by John Kirkish for the only run.
“We’re having fun,” said manager Roy Jackson. “The kids are all showing up. They are playing a lot of innings. We are hitting the ball hard, but it is right at them. We are not making a lot of errors, but they seem to come at key times.”
The schedule for the Athletics doesn’t get any easier as the team plays a double header with the Santa Clara Rangers on Thursday and then plays the Santa Clara Red Sox on Monday.
The Red host the Palomino World Series each year and, as a result, have an automatic berth.
