Mary Jane passed away peacefully Sunday July 11, 2011, at her home in Salinas.

Descended from pioneer families in Santa Clara and San Benito counties and raised in the Uvas district of Morgan Hill she attended the one room Uvas School and then attended Live Oak High School graduating with the class of 1944.

On graduation from high school she traveled to Hernando, Mississippi where she married her beloved husband of 68 years Harold Oberg. She was active for many years in community organizations, one of the founding members (Salinas Chapter) of the ninety-nines, International Organization of Women Pilots, past member of the Valley Guild, Steinbeck House volunteers, and the Carmel Foundation among many others.

Mary Jane and Harold traveled much of the world, met many wonderful people and had some great adventures. She was preceded in death by her son Bob Oberg and will be forever missed by her husband Harold, daughter Kristine Hernandez, grandchildren Anne Nunez, Vickie Hernandez, Christopher Hernandez, Amelia Hernandez, great- granddaughters Nicole and Natalie Nunez, Justine Osuna and great-great-granddaughter Callie Jayne Costa.
